The Areaware Alarm Dock Turns Your iPhone Into an Old School Flip Clock
Hi, I'm Brit, the founder and CEO of Brit + Co. I'm a young mom of two, tech nerd and design-inclined lady who has a zillion hobbies and curious about... just about everything! My mission from the beginning has been to unlock women's creativity and courage to try new things so that they can find the path to their true passions.
If you lived in the 80s or early 90s, you probably remember the old school flip clocks that sat on nearly every bedside table. In true analog style, they flipped numbers as the minutes passed. Quite retro. Over the past two decades, alarm clocks have seen many upgrades – today, there are even such things as walking alarm clocks. Most just use their smart phone as their alarm, taking the need away from having to purchase an actual clock.
Now, there’s an even classier way to use your phone as a bedside clock. We just found this stunning wooden Alarm Dock by Areaware ($40) and designer Jonas Damon that lets you harmoniously bridge the gap between high and low tech. You simply run your iPhone power cord through a hole in the back of the dock, and connect your iPhone on its side. Then, with a handy Areaware app, you can transform your phone into that beloved flip clock from your childhood. There are even faux speaker grooves across the top surface. The dock fits iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4G and 4S.
What other types of creative alarm clocks have you seen? Send us a tip in the comments below or on Twitter.
