The First ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ Trailer May Contain a Spoiler
The first Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald trailer dropped this week, and from what we can see, the sequel promises to be just as action-packed as the original film. But some eagle-eyed fans are also seeing something else in this sneak peek: a potential spoiler.
In the trailer, we were whisked back into the magical world of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he attempts to help Dumbledore (Jude Law) find and stop Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) before the dark wizard can carry out his evil plan that will result in pure-blood wizards ruling over all non-magical beings.
But at one point, a lone figure (it looks to be Dumbledore) is seen facing a wall that is covered in an intricate family tree. It belongs to the Lestrange family, a name that fans will associate with Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter) from the Harry Potter films.
However, what makes this particular family tree even more interesting is the fact that Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller) is included. The wizard who we first met in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them had been adopted by Mary Lou Barebone (Samantha Morton), an American No-Maj who had a particularly strong hatred of magic. Though Credence seemed unaware of his biological family background, it now appears he may be a Lestrange.
And he’s not the only member of that particular wizarding family who’s set to appear in the sequel: Leta Lestrange (Zoë Kravitz) will definitely have a storyline on the big screen. While it seems likely that she’ll somehow be involved with Newt, given their past, perhaps the new maybe-spoiler suggests that Leta and Credence will get up to previously unexpected hijinks when the magical action stirs up once again.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will hit theaters on November 16.
