‘The Originals’ Season 5 Is Coming to Netflix in August
There are just a few new episodes of The Originals left to air on The CW, but fans can relive the entire series almost as soon as the finale airs on August 1, as the fifth and final season is set to debut on Netflix not long after. Brit + Co can reveal that season 5 will hit the streaming service on August 9, which gives you a little over a week post-finale to start binging the first four seasons.
The Originals — which follows vampire-werewolf hybrid Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) and his siblings Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) as they navigate their supernatural lives in New Orleans — debuted in 2013 as a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries.
The CW renewed the series for a fifth season in May 2017, but in July of that year, the show’s creator, Julie Plec, announced via Twitter that season 5 would be the last. “I’m packing my bags for Comic-Con, realizing it’s been a year since we announced the end of The Vampire Diaries,” she wrote. “It feels only fitting to use this anniversary to make a second farewell announcement. This year, we invite you to help us say goodbye to The Originals, which begins shooting its fifth and final season on Monday.”
In May 2018, Morgan talked with Us Weekly about his final days on the show, saying, “I had friends and my wife was with me as well, thank goodness. And some of the cast were with me as well, but you feel like, wow. That’s it, it’s done. It’s a joy and a sadness at once, is the only way I can describe it. It’s a plethora of feelings. … And then you pack up your stuff and I sort of took a last look at my dressing room that I’ve been in for five years and you think, ‘Is there anything else I can steal? No, I’ve got it all.’ And then you go. I took the name tag off the door. That’s probably worth something.”
Besides the name tag, he joked that he stole some of his character’s wardrobe. “Yeah, the henleys,” he quipped. “As many henleys as I could carry.”
Season 5 of The Originals will hit Netflix on August 9. The full list of titles coming to the streaming service in August will be available on Wednesday, July 25.
