The Wicked Movie Finally Has a Release Date
While we’re giddy with excitement over the adorable Finding Dory and Disney’s newest princess, Moana, a few villainous ladies are getting ready to take Hollywood by storm. With news that Emma Stone has definitely signed on to play Cruella in the newest version of the 101 Dalmatians story, we now have another evil-ish lady ready to take the screen along with her better-half sis. Get ready for the film version of the super popular musical, Wicked.
First premiering way back into 1998, the musical is told from the witches’ point of view. It’s definitely not the Oz story as most people know it. A tale of sibling rivalry, love interests, corrupt governments (yep, even in Oz) and a public fall from grace, it’s all the drama you could ever want… and even has flying monkeys!
With Wicked’s catchy tunes and comical brilliance, it’s not surprising that it’s being eyed for the big-screen. The movie buzz started way back in 2004, so it’s been a long time coming for Wicked fans. Hopefully, the film will be totally worth the wait.
Wciked will be coming to movie theaters on (drum roll, please) December 20, 2019. Yes, that’s still quite a bit of a wait, but since it’s been over a decade in the making, what’s another couple of years? *groan*
In the meantime, you can keep busy with the nine live-action flicks Disney has on deck. From The Little Mermaid to Beauty and the Beast, there will be plenty of picks to keep you satisfied until you’re whisked away to the land of Oz.
