The Wicked Movie Finally Has an Official (Cruelly Far Off) Release Date
Wicked has been casting its spell on Broadway audiences for nearly 15 years now, with more than 5,000 stage performances to date (!). News of a movie version (which will include four new songs, my pretties!) has been buzzing around for ages (it was confirmed back in 2015), but it seems it’s finally, FINALLY all happening, as the film’s originally rumored date has just been confirmed by Universal.
A fair bit of warning — it’s cruelly far off. Fans of the musical won’t be able to see their beloved play in theaters until December 20, 2019.
Based on the classic Wizard of Oz tale with a substantial twist or two, the musical version makes it hard to decipher what’s more charming between its characters, costumes, storyline, and songs, so it will certainly be interesting to see how the film stacks up.
Though we have quite a ways to go before we’ll be pencilling in our Wicked viewing party, that leaves us with plenty of time to re-learn all the fairy-tale-laced lyrics we’re sure to be belting out long after the flick has ended.
We can’t wait!
