3 Hot Cocktail Recipes for Outdoor Fall Parties
As we head into fall, it’s the perfect time to pull out the thermos and make hot cocktails for tailgating or outdoor pumpkin carving parties. Hot cider, water, tea, or coffee all work great as a base combined with dark spirits, including rum, whiskey, and brandy. Baking spices like cinnamon, allspice, and clove add a nice fall flair that perfectly accompanies a hot toddy. Check out these three recipes courtesy of Noah Rothbaum, author and chief cocktail correspondent for The Daily Beast, to get your cocktail juices flowing.
Rum Toddy
Ingredients
- 14 ounces hot water
- 6 ounces dark rum
- 6 teaspoons honey
- .75 ounce fresh lemon juice
Instructions:
Add all the ingredients to a thermos and stir.
Note:
This is a rum spin on a classic hot toddy. But you want to go easy with the lemon juice, since warm citrus can become very bitter. If your lemon is particularly tart, you may want to cut back to half an ounce.
Hot Apple Toddy
Ingredients:
- 14 ounces hot apple cider
- 6 ounces bourbon
- 2 ounces sugar
- cinnamon stick
Instructions:
Add all the ingredients to a thermos and stir.
Scotch Toddy
Ingredients:
- 14 ounces black tea
- 7 ounces Scotch, like Glenfiddich or Glenmorangie
- 2 ounces sugar
- zest of one orange
Instructions:
Add all the ingredients to a thermos and stir.
