These Funny Animal Photo Contest Winners Are Exactly What This Sad News Cycle Needs
Tired of reading about tax bills, sexual assault, and the end of the internet as we know it? In the mood for some lighthearted snaps of animals behaving ridiculously? Yeah, you are. And you’re also in luck, because the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards revealed their 2017 winners Thursday morning, and darn it if a photo of a fox pooping in a golf hole isn’t just what the doctor ordered.
If you’ve never heard of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, that’s because they’ve only been around since 2015, when they exploded onto the scene with this unforgettable image of a hamster that is obviously late for work:
The competition is run by two British photographers who identified a need for “a photography competition that was lighthearted, upbeat, possibly unpretentious and mainly about wildlife doing funny things.”
And they nailed it. This year’s winners include a turtle slapping a fish upside the head, penguins on their way to church, bears getting busted in the act, and a seal making the best “WTF” face we’ve ever seen.
This 2017 grand prize winner is a four-photo series of a baby owl that just can’t seem to stay perched upright. We’ve all been there, amiright?
With the tagline is “Conservation through Competition.” The hope is that, after busting a gut, viewers will take a moment to think about the animals with whom we share the Earth, and perhaps make a donation to the conservationists at Born Free.
