This Boho Living Room Makeover Is #Jungalow Goals
Making over your home (or even dreaming about it) is a lot of work. You want to personalize your space so it’s functional yet beautiful, and, of course, throw in a bit of wow factor. To kick off our new monthly series, Make It Over, we started with a space that was near and dear to my heart: the living room of my San Francisco apartment! Check out the bright, boho transformation below, along with the easy peasy DIYs that brought it all together. Hopefully, it will inspire you to Make It Over in your own home!
THE BEFORE
My old living room had a palette of grays and navy on dark wood, and the furniture was mostly bulky and square. Needless to say, it was ready for a MAJOR revamp. With my aesthetic leaning more toward light, texture-filled, and beachy, this was a complete overhaul. See how it all happened below.
The AFTER
I was inspired by the California-cool, boho style that I’ve come to love since moving to the Golden State. I really wanted a beachy feel that wasn’t too kitschy or nautical.
I spent hours scouring Pinterest and a few of my favorite home stores, but it wasn’t until I locked my eyes on the Sven Sectional from Article that I really knew what direction to take the makeover. Thanks to Article, this hero piece brought a warmer tone to the room and made plenty of space for all the cool blues and teals I knew I wanted.

Lulu & Georgia Moroccan Pouf
Adding texture was a must, so I worked with Serena & Lily to find a modern rattan chair, and was able to get a gorgeous teal shag rug from Lulu & Georgia to complement the leather couch.
To bring that wow factor (and some extra seating), I picked up a gold Moroccan pouf and a Moroccan wedding blanket-inspired pouf for the area near the window.
Since this makeover was all about bringing brighter colors and lots of texture (and because I am well into my third year of being a #plantlady), I knew that greenery would need to have a *major* presence. That’s where the idea for the jungalow fireplace came in. Since we live in California we rarely use the thing and have no outdoor space, so I wanted to turn it into a functional indoor garden.

The gallery wall transformation is the pièce de résistance of the room. I used Minted’s Gallery Personal Art Styling Service to curate the perfect wall and was beyond impressed with the results! I love how the mix of matte with wood and white frames really brightens up the room while tying in the beachy theme.
THE DIYS
Of course, not everything was store-bought. I depended on quite a few DIYs to add a personal touch to the makeover. I used leather cord to make both a hanging planter and hanging wall shelf. Both were easy, affordable, and quick. Check out the steps below to see how you can make ’em on your own.
With a piece of plywood, leather string, and a repurposed curtain ring, this DIY cost me less than $5!
Using an old bowl from my kitchen and a recently purchased hanging plant, I was able to tie this beauty together in under five minutes.
