This Is the App Emma Watson Has to Thank for the Most Recent Harry Potter Mini-Reunion
Emma Watson will obviously always hold her breakout role close to her heart no matter what characters she goes on to play, a fact she’s made clear with her current transformation into the heroine of Beauty and the Beast. Since the announcement of her new starring role, Watson has revealed a connection between the two fan favorites of Hermione and Belle, as well as a Harry Potter Easter egg that’s been dropped into the film’s intro song that you might have otherwise missed.
It’s a momentum the A-list actress has kept going even post-production. In the midst of her world-wide tour premiering the new live-action Disney movie, she wanted to include her Harry Potter cast-mates. Assembling the crew of busy international actors, however, is no easy feat. As Matthew Lewis (AKA Neville Longbottom) told People, “We had like a WhatsApp group, and she invited a whole bunch of us all over the place.”
It definitely makes sense that the actress uses social media/an app to keep in touch, considering Emma Watson recently gave out advice via an iPad. Girl definitely seems somewhat tech-savvy (though perhaps not AS proficient as she is with a wand *wink*).
The app seemed to do the trick: Not only did Lewis take Watson up on her offer, walking the carpet with his fiancée Angela Jones, but Tom Felton (AKA Draco Malfoy) was in attendance as well, despite reportedly skipping carpet fanfare.
Lewis, for one, had nothing but awesome things to say about his former castmate. “People try to pigeonhole young actresses and tell them what they should and shouldn’t be doing. Emma was always very keen to do whatever the hell she wanted to do, and I think she’s done that.”
He added, “She’s hoping to use her experiences to try and help people, and I think that’s absolutely fantastic. I think that she’ll do it with Belle — Belle won’t be a damsel in distress.”
With an app like that, clearly not!
