“This Is Us” Released a First Look at Season 2 and We’re Already Crying
If you thought you still had a few weeks to get your tear ducts ready for This Is Us, think again. With a little over a month before the show’s season two premiere, NBC surprised fans of the runaway hit with a tearjerking teaser. In the first-look clip, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) asks his mom Rebecca (Mandy Moore) about how she and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) made the decision to adopt him as a baby. Grab a tissue and hit play.
With Randall and his wife, Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson), at odds over adopting a baby themselves, Randall asks his mom for a little guidance. The clip cuts between their present-day conversation and the first moment she set eyes on the baby boy who would be her son in the maternity ward so many years ago.
“Just look at him, Bec,” Jack says in the flashback. “Can’t you just feel it? You know, can’t you just see it?”
“I said no,” Rebecca tells Randall in the present day. “But your father was so sure. I was tired and I was grieving, and he just kept pushing me. He was so determined that you were meant to be, meant to be ours. Sometimes in marriage, someone has to be the one to push to make the big moves. And often times in our marriage, yes, it was your father. Our marriage wasn’t perfect, it’s true. But none are. And your father wasn’t perfect either, but he was pretty damn close. As close as they come.”
Oof, our hearts.
Like Randall, fans are looking for answers when This Is Us returns to NBC on September 26. The show’s creator, Dan Fogelman, has promised that Jack’s death will be explored during the show’s upcoming episodes. “A big, giant piece of the puzzle [of what happened to Jack] that will potentially set the internet abuzz, but hopefully give some momentum to that storyline [will happen during the premiere],” Fogelman told E! News.
