This Museum Contest Could Turn Your Selfie into Fine Art
While we’re major proponents of the selfie as a work of art and a radical act of self-love, the art world hasn’t really caught on yet. Sure, Kim Kardashian can put out a book of selfies, but art critics aren’t exactly clamoring for your post-workout selfie, or even your best belfie… until now.
In March, London’s Saatchi Gallery will launch “Selfie to Self-Expression,” an exhibition that will feature selfies through the ages, from paintings by Vincent van Gogh and June Calypso to photographs capturing some of the most iconic selfies in history. Also included on that list of artists? You! Or rather, you could be, if you submit a pic to the Saatchi selfie contest and win the honor of “Selfie Prize.”
In order to win, all you have to do is submit your selfie through Saatchi’s website by March 12. A panel of judges will review the photo entries and score them based on originality and creativity, ultimately selecting 10 lucky finalists. Those finalists will win a round-trip flight to London, along with travel accommodations and a new smartphone from the contest’s sponsor, Huawei. One grand prize winner will receive that trip and a second trip to an undisclosed location that promises to be photo-worthy. On top of that, your selfie will be hung on the Saatchi’s walls, for everyone to admire. We’re jealous already.
So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and fire up your camera — you’ve got a contest to win!
