This Spice Girls “Wannabe” Remake Takes Girl Power to the Next Level
With a Spice Girls reunion tour in the works, we’re totally getting into the girl group’s best singles all over again. While we’ve been having fun pulling out our fave ’90s style essentials and singing along to some of the most memorable pop songs of our generation, the Internet’s been going gaga over a “Wannabe” remake that takes Girl Power to the next level. You’ll be singing along to lyrics all about women’s issues that need to be addressed, like, NOW, while getting into the make-the-world-a-better-place groove. Zig-a-zig-ah!
This newer version of the now 20-year-old song (yowza!) was brought to us by Project Everyone, a charity that’s using the hashtag #WhatIReallyReallyWant to tell the world what girls and women around the world want and deserve.
Filmed on location in places like Mumbai, India and Cape Town, South Africa with some pretty amazing dancers who totally nail the Spice Girls moves, the video includes important messages staged throughout, like “End Child Marriage” and “Equal Pay for Equal Work.”
Even original Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is on board, saying in a statement to Glamour, “I think this film is a wonderful idea. How fabulous it is that after 20 years, the legacy of the Spice Girls’ ‘Girl Power’ is being used to encourage and empower a whole new generation.” She also shared the vid on her Facebook page.
Watch below, sing along and check out the important Girl Power message.
