This Viral Video About the Reality of Bathing Suits Is Hilariously On-Point
Even as some swimsuit companies are moving toward being more size and shape inclusive, the reality is that, in any given year, the season’s trendiest swimsuits are unappealing to many who don’t like to bare it all on the beach (and hey, even flawless humans like Ashley Graham sometimes feel self-conscious in a suit, so…).
Comedians Kristin Hensley and Jen Smedley of I Mom So Hard totally get it, and in a hilarious new video, they take on the summer’s biggest swimsuit trends, dishing on the reality of needing to put parental practicality before all else. Check out the hilarious video:
“This is what dudes get to wear to the beach,” they frown in the video as they show off their oversized comfy tees and knee-length boardshorts. From there, the two try on multiple trendy swimsuit styles, often with elaborate cutouts, butt-baring high-cut bottoms, and random strings galore.
“Nobody thinks that they look perfect, ever,” they say, admitting that they’d rather be comfortable in what they want to wear — and not what they think they should be wearing — while they enjoy the too-few perfect summer beach days with their kids. “Let’s just go to the beach and have a good time!”
Eventually the pair reveal their ideal summer looks, which, it’s worth noting, is ideal because it works for them — which is exactly the point.
“When I’m at the beach, I’m there to lifeguard, build sandcastles, supply treats, re-stand the umbrella every dang time it blows over, spray sunscreen, drink a beer, look for seashells, warm-up wet kiddos, force people to eat sandwiches and drink juice, blow up water-wings, and keep my son from publicly urinating,” they list. Phew. “Basically, I’ve got a really fun job to do and I don’t have time to let a piece of lycra throw me off my game.”
