This Is Why People Are Posting Pics of Their Bare Feet on Instagram
For the past eight years, TOMS has been encouraging people throughout the globe to go without shoes for a day to raise awareness of the impact owning a pair brings to a person’s life. This year, the one-for-one footwear company is turning its annual One Day Without Shoes initiative into a two-week social media campaign. All it takes to help children get footwear worldwide is your smartphone, an Instagram account and some bare feet (pedicured or not).
Leading up to the eighth annual One Day Without Shoes on May 21, TOMS is going an alternate route (no barefoot workday this year) and encouraging everyone to put their social media account to good use by posting a #withoutshoes snap of their tootsies. In return, the company will give a new pair of shoes to a child in need. Yep, just by posting those toes (don’t fear the comments) you’ll be helping the kids internationally. No purchase necessary. No day-long shoeless journey. Just a picture, an upload and a hashtag is all it takes to make a huge impact on the life of a child.
In addition to this creative initiative to help those less footwear fortunate, this year the company has also extended its mission to help others in need. Back in March, TOMS launched a collection of bags, where every purchase helps to provide a safe birth for mothers + newborns in developing countries. This is one company staying true to its mission and making an impact alongside its profits.
