10 Style Trends for 2018 That You Probably Already Own

For many of us, 2017 was a doozy, but we here at Brit + Co are ready to hit refresh in 2018! Follow our Hit Refresh series through January for new ideas, hacks, and skills that will help you achieve (and maintain!) those New Year’s resolutions.

With the end of the year approaching, it's time to start thinking about your 2018 look. (New year, new you, right?) There's certainly no shortage of trends around these days, but it can be hard to discern which ones are most important — AKA worth spending your hard-earned money on (or keeping in your closet for another season). To help you get a jumpstart on the new year, we've narrowed down the top 10 trends that will dominate in 2018.
Fringe: More playful than its boho predecessors, 2018's fringe is silky and flapper-inspired. Try it in bold colors or lean into the trend with black, like the Gracia Layered Fringe Top ($80).
Plaid: Whether you prefer a more suiting-inspired check or a bright, vibrant option, the upcoming year promises to a plaid, plaid world. While it's still chilly out, get on board with this Topshop Bright Checked Coat ($190).
Workout-Inspired: Don't call it athleisure. For spring, track suit details like drawstring cords and nylon are going way beyond the gym. Take the trend for a test run in this Forever 21 Anorak Jacket and Jogger Set ($58).
Plastics: You already know patent and vinyl are here for the duration. So go one better with the next incarnation of the slick synthetic in a see-through option. Our current favorite? The Raye x REVOLVE Amelia Heel ($99).
Shine for Days: Once the holidays are over, it doesn't mean you have to put away all of your shimmer and sparkle. Paired with dressed-down options like ankle boots, knits, tees, and denim, festive pieces like this Zara Sequin Mini Dress ($36) get new life in the new year.
Lavender: With ultra violet being named Pantone's color of the year, expect to see lots of purple in 2018. Pastel shades like lilac and lavender feel exceptionally springy, and pieces like this Nasty Gal Together For-Leather Moto Jacket ($90) will instantly update your look.
Updated Trenches: The perennial favorite is getting a makeover in the form of embellishments, feminine details, and unexpected fabrications. Upgrade from the traditional style with this Mango Puffed-Shoulder Trench ($130).
Sparkly Earrings: Sure, crystal and rhinestone jewels have been around since forever. But after a few seasons of tassels, balls, and structured, sculptural styles, glitzy picks like these Liars & Lovers State Star Statement Earrings ($35) feel totally fresh again.
Florals: Okay, the spring staple pattern isn't exactly groundbreaking. But florals big and small will be everywhere next year, so bet on a mixed print option like this French Connection Celia Mix V Neck Floral Maxi Dress ($298) to transition into 2018 with ease.
Tiny Sunglasses: The '90s redux shape came back with a vengeance this year and will be sticking around. Small framed styles like these Free People What’s Your Angle Sunglasses ($30) will come in handy when sunny days return.
