Why Tyra Banks Is Opening Up About Her Nose Job
Tyra Banks had a nose job — and she’s not afraid to admit it. The supermodel is making the confession in her upcoming book, Perfect Is Boring: 10 Things My Crazy, Fierce Mama Taught Me About Beauty Booty, and Being a Boss ($25), explaining that she underwent the procedure for cosmetic purposes before becoming one of the most famous faces in the modeling industry.
“I had bones in my nose that were growing and itching,” she writes. “I could breathe fine, but I added cosmetic surgery. I admit it! Fake hair, and I did my nose. I feel I have a responsibility to tell the truth.”
In an interview with People magazine, the 44-year-old elaborated on her decision to open up about the matter. “Natural beauty is unfair,” she quipped. “I get really uncomfortable when women who are these natural beauties judge anybody who does anything to themselves.”
For the mommy of one, it’s a matter of personal freedom. “Fix it or flaunt it — I think women should be able to do both. There is a boundary line, either you’re super natural or you live at the plastic surgeon. It’s okay to hop back and forth over that line.”
Banks went on to say that that that same lack of restrictions should come with less drastic procedures as well, telling the outlet, “You want a hair weave? Fine. You want permanent eyebrows. Fine. We as women need to stop judging.”
And BTW? That goes for makeup, too. “As a model, I needed makeup. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. It leveled my playing field. Gisele, you don’t need it? I do! And we’re both modeling for Victoria’s Secret.”
Banks’ book hits shelves April 3.
