6 Balloons (2018):Broad City star Abbi Jacobson flexes her dramatic acting chops in this film about a sister trying to help her brother (Dave Franco), a heroin addict, get treatment. It's a stirring story that's sadly all too timely, and Jacobson and Franco handle it with delicacy and empathy. (Photo via Bruce Finn/Netflix)
Tallulah (2016): Ellen Page stars as a young woman who decides to keep a toddler she believes to be neglected by its mother. Even when she finds out she's being pursued by the police, she decides to keep the baby and go into hiding, telling her ex-boyfriend's mother (Allison Janney) that it's her child. It's a heartbreaking look at the power of non-traditional family arrangements. (Photo via David Newsom/Netflix)
Deidra & Laney Rob a Train (2017): Things aren't easy for high school senior Deidra (Ashleigh Murray), who resorts to, well, robbing a train to try to help her family out of a tough spot. This 2017 teen dramedy is a perfect example of how Netflix can be a jumping-off point for young talent like Murray and the equally charming Rachel Crow, who plays her younger sister Laney. The Incredible Jessica James (2017): Netflix has clearly been toying with the classic rom-com prototype all along, and this 2017 feature starring former Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams is truly an overlooked gem. The film follows city-living 20-somethings in the throes of heartbreak and new love, and, really, what's not to love about that? (Photo via Netflix)
The Kissing Booth (2018): Like To All the Boys I've Loved Before, The Kissing Booth is based on a popular YA novel. And while the latter is missing some of the wit and all of the Noah Centineo charm of the former, it's still a fun teen rom-com for a Friday night in. (Photo via Marcos Cruz/Netflix)
The Fundamentals of Caring (2016): Get ready for a feel-good cry-fest. Paul Rudd plays the caretaker of an 18-year-old boy with muscular dystrophy. As the two embark on a road trip together, they encounter experiences, people, and perspectives that teach them some unforgettable life lessons. (Photo via Annette Brown/Netflix)
The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) (2017): Director Noah Baumbach took his knack for magnifying the intricate machinations of humanity to the small screen for the critically acclaimed Meyerowitz Stories. Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, and Elizabeth Marvel star as dysfunctional grownup siblings trying to navigate a complicated family dynamic with their father (Dustin Hoffman) and his third wife (Emma Thompson). Tramps (2016): Another rom-com done right by Netflix,Tramps is about an unlikely criminal duo who have to band together to correct a mistake and end up falling for each other in the process. Add in some attractive early-20-somethings and set it against the backdrop of New York City, and voila. (Photo via Netflix)
Little Evil (2017): Adam Scott and Evangeline Lilly star as newlyweds in this horror comedy about a man trying to adapt to his new domestic life — which includes a possessed stepson. (Photo via Katrina Marcinowski/Netflix)
Ibiza (2018): Gillian Jacob, Vanessa Bayer, and Phoebe Robinson star as BFFs who head to Ibiza and get into some predictable (and literally LOL-worthy) hijinks that never get tired in a film like this. (Photo via Aleksandar Letic/Netflix)
Dude (2017): Lucy Hale and Awkwafina headline this girl-group stoner comedy about a group of friends dealing with the death of their friend the only way they know how — by getting high. Some viewers have called it the worst thing they've ever seen on Netflix, which puts it in a special category of its own. (Photo via Anne Marie Fox/Netflix)
