This Vans x Van Gogh Museum Collection Is a Match Made in Artistic Heaven
It’s been 128 years since his death, and yet Vincent van Gogh is the latest artist to take the streetwear world by storm. Vans announced yesterday that they were releasing a collection in conjunction with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam featuring classic Vans silhouettes printed with the Dutch painter’s most famous works — and, oh man, every piece is so good.
“We are delighted with the Vans x Van Gogh Museum collection, as it ties in with our mission to make the life and work of Vincent van Gogh accessible to as many people as possible in order to enrich and inspire them”, said Adriaan Dönszelmann, Managing Director of the Van Gogh Museum, in a statement. “By uniting Van Gogh’s iconic artworks with iconic Vans styles, our partnership brings Vincent’s art ‘Off The Wall’ and into the world to a new audience outside the museum.”
The collection will include hats, bombers, sneakers in both the brand’s iconic Old Skool and a special Classic Slip-On styles, shirts, and hoodies for both men and women, and backpacks that have been carefully printed with subtle details of the artist’s handwriting and brush strokes.
The Van Gogh Museum will be dedicating a portion of its profits from sales to the preservation of Vincent van Gogh’s legacy and collection of art for future generations, so if you score a piece from this collab, you can officially call yourself a patron of the arts.
Van Gogh is one of the biggest names in post-impressionist painting and remains a towering influence in modern art. He was also incredibly prolific, creating over 2,100 pieces of artwork during his decades-long career. This means this collection definitely had a lot of inspiration to work with, including the painter’s famous Skull, Almond Blossom, Sunflowers, and self-portrait.
The whole line will be available to fans worldwide in stores and online on August 3 at Vans.com/VanGogh. You will also be able to score it at the museum store in Amsterdam, so perhaps it’s time to take a trip and soak in some art.
