This Insanely Simple Trick Will Help You Get Out of Bed in the Morning
The benefits of drinking lotsa water seem to be never-ending (and awesome), which is why we’re always up for new and easy ways to make it tastier. Plus, we love finding out about the nifty ways it helps benefit our skin. That’s why we’re thrilled to find out that drinking water will actually help you wake up in the morning (and we don’t just mean by having a cold shower or getting your roomie to toss a glass of tepid H2O on your sleeping face).
According to Pop Sugar, “A glass of water first thing in the morning can wake you right up.” Why is that?
“Upon waking, you’re always dehydrated (you haven’t had any water since before you fell asleep),” Men’s Fitness tells us (and we have to assume this goes for ladies and not just the men). “Dehydration [causes] your metabolism [to slow] down to conserve fluids — according to a University of Rochester study, the loss of even one percent of your body weight in water can impair exercise performance.” So it’s important to hydrate your bod as soon as you wake up, especially if you plan on hitting up Starbucks for your coffee and breakfast right after.
Even the Farmer’s Almanac suggests drinking water as soon as you wake up (as well as throughout the day) to battle drowsiness. “One of the symptoms of dehydration is tiredness. It’s hard to feel energetic and alert when your body doesn’t have enough fluid to run properly… In addition, cold water stimulates the nerve endings in your mouth and throat, which are near your brain stem. This can help to give your mind a jolt when you find yourself struggling with drowsiness.” So grab some icy water, and give your brain a cool wake-up call each morn, sleepy sistas!
