Style Resolutions: 3 Ways to Wear a Faux Fur Coat Post-Holidays
Wintertime always means that clothes get warmer, roomier (bring on the layers!) and snugglier. This year, they got a whole lot fuzzier too when faux fur became the the chicest way to cover up from the cold. And not just as a detail on garments like your traditional fur-lined parka hood: the fluff took over everything from clutches to coats, creating major statement pieces out of traditional winter staples. The added glam was perfect timing for the holidays when everything style-related is turned up to 11, but don’t think that means you need to retire the over-the-top fur once December ends. We’ve made a style resolution to get the most out of our wardrobes in 2015, so we’re showing you three ways to re-style a faux fur coat ($110) *after* the holidays. Scroll through to see how we’d wear the wooly outerwear to the office, on a night out and on a lazy weekend.
ON-DUTY
Luxe fabrics and a deep color palette will elevate your 9 to 5 duds to the same level as your fancy outerwear. Pass up pieces in black and navy and go for more unexpected neutrals like camel pants, mahogany loafers and an emerald blouse that layers nicely over a dark plaid shirt. Add your pop of color (your outfit’s equivalent to the 3PM pick-me-up) with a bright tassel bracelet.

PARTY ON
Sequins and metallics are the obvious P.I.C.s for a fab faux fur coat… so go there. Differentiate your everyday sparkly from your holiday glitz (that’s a thing) in a sequined skirt with a more springy floral design paired with a flouncy crop to and heels and a clutch that can both hold their own in this outfit (think bold colors and eye-catching metallics). Accessorize with a non-sparkly pair of statement earrings: 360 pearl studs will do the trick.
Topshop Faux Fur Teddy Coat ($110) + Mango Cropped Cut-Out Top ($30), Joa Metal Petal Sequin Skirt ($92), Missguided Clara Cobalt Blue Strappy Heeled Sandals ($29), Whistles Small Leather Clutch in Silver ($86), BaubleBar Pearl 360 Studs ($28)
WEEKEND RETREAT
No dress required to toss this coat on over the weekend. Stick to a clean and casual color palette like heather grays, soft tans and dusty pinks (bonus if all three are incorporated in your fashion sneaks) and separates that play into that same vibe, like just-worn boyfriend jeans and a French girl-inspired sweatshirt that are accented with quirky silver studs and a canvas utility tote.
Topshop Faux Fur Teddy Coat ($110) + Treasure&Bond Boyfriend Jeans (Medium Wash) ($88), Whistles Tres Bien Merci Sweatshirt ($140), Saucony & Madewell Shadow Original Sneakers ($75), Apolis Jute Utility Tote ($78), MXM Jewelry & Design Puzzle Stud Earrings ($40)
