Brit + Co’s Weekly Entertainment Planner: ‘Isn’t It Romantic,’ ‘Dating Around,’ and More!
Welcome to Brit + Co’s Weekly Entertainment Planner! Each Monday, we highlight one thing we’re excited about in six categories — movies, TV, music, streaming services, podcasts, and a bonus pick from all of the above — to help you navigate your week in watching and listening. Check out our picks for the week of February 11 to 17 below. Your eyes and your ears will thank us!
Movies
Isn’t It Romantic (February 13): Rebel Wilson stars in this meta rom-com that hits theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day. The Pitch Perfect actress plays a woman who wakes up one morning to find herself in a new life where everything plays out like a romantic comedy. Liam Hemsworth, Adam Devine, and Priyanka Chopra also star. (Photo via Michael Parmelee/Warner Bros. Pictures)
TV
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Season 9 (February 12): Denise Richards is joining the fold for season 9, so we’ll get to see her wedding to Aaron Phypers, which was filmed for the show. Otherwise, expect lots of drama from returning stars Lisa Vanderpump, Kyle Richards, Lisa Rinna, Erika Jayne, Dorit Kemsley, and more. Check out the season premiere on Tuesday, February 12, on Bravo. Streaming
The Umbrella Academy (February 15): Netflix’s new superhero series puts the “fun” in dysfunctional. Adapted from the comic of the same name, The Umbrella Academy follows a family of adopted misfits with superpowers who must put their differences aside to carry out their world-saving mission. It looks dark, funny, and very binge-able.
Podcasts
Sentimental Garbage: Are you a sucker for some good chick lit, but sick of thinking of it as a guilty pleasure? This podcast from author and journalist Caroline O’Donoghue looks at the way these often-dismissed novels reflect the realities of women’s lives, even as they’re regarded as fluff. Along with other female writers, O’Donoghue gives chick lit the respect it deserves in the cultural conversation. Listen online, or subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.
Music
The Music of Fifty Shades: Complete Soundtrack Collection (February 14): One year after the release of the third and final installment in the Fifty Shades film series, the trilogy’s complete soundtracks are being compiled into one tidy package — just in time for Valentine’s Day. For diehards of the franchise, the collection will feature not only hit singles such as Zayn and Taylor Swift’s duet “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” and Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love (2014 Remix),” but an unreleased version of Liam Payne and Rita Ora’s duet “For You (Fifty Shades Freed),” too. The collection also comes with a collectible hardcover photo book featuring memorable stills from all three films, so the most iconic Christian and Anastasia scenes are always available at arm’s reach. Pick up the Fifty Shades soundtrack collection on Friday, February 14.
Bonus
Dating Around (February 14): If your idea of a perfect Valentine’s Day is curling up on the couch with some juicy TV, we’ve got just the recommendation: In each episode of Netflix’s new dating show, Dating Around, one single person goes on five first dates before deciding who they’d like to see again. It arrives on Thursday, February 14. (Photo via Netflix)
