3 Reasons Why We’ll Never Abandon Our Love of Big Sunglasses
We don’t care what Kanye West says; we’re not trading in our beloved big shades for the tiny sunglasses trend. (ICYMI the itty bitty frames that were hugely popular in the early ’90s — think Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, the Olsen twins in Billboard Dad, and Rachel (AKA Jennifer Aniston) from Friends — are back and they’re bigger (er, smaller) than ever.) There is just something about oversized statement sunnies that will never grow old in our hearts. Need proof that these old standbys still deserve a spot in your spring/summer rotation? Below, find our top three reasons why we’ll never abandon big sunglasses.
1. They never go out of style. No matter what eccentric fads steal the scene, sizable sunglasses have proven they’re here to stay. If you are looking to invest in one pair, turn to the tried and true square frame that are classic and versatile enough to complete every summer outfit. (Photo via Gotham/GC Images)
Brit + Co Pick: Alain Mikli 0A05029 By Jeremy Scott ($358). Try out one of the Gigi Hadid’s go-to designers who’s known for creating big and bold, throwback-inspired designs. Pair with layered pendant necklaces, a logo tee, and lots of leather.
2. They’re flattering on all face shapes. Our girl Cardi B proves that large and in charge frames befit boss babes everywhere. Bonus: Exaggerated styles just so happen to be flattering on a wider range of face shapes than mini specs. (Photo via Jamie McCarthy/Getty)
Brit + Co Pick: Le Specs Last Lolita Sunglasses ($80). Quickly becoming a Cardi B classic, the oversized cat-eye is the ideal frame when you want to add a little modern edge to this very funky, retro style.
3. They. Are. Super. Sassy. Size definitely matters when it comes to conveying ‘tude. Whether you’re going for mod, mysterious, or cheeky, oversized shades are the showstoppers your larger-than-life personality needs. Let’s not forget one of the most prolific style icons, Anna Wintour, has been wearing the same Chanel style since FOREVER, proving once again, when you find that sass, stick with it. Brit + Co Pick: Céline Aviator Sunglasses ($455). 2018’s must-have statement, shield-style sunnies are without a doubt of the Celine variety. Think Phoebe Philo-era flattop stunners in tortoise or solid black.
