26 Crazy Winter Storm Names More Creative Than Your Name
Hurricane season is upon us, which means hunkering down for a little soup making, Netflix and chilling and hiding under the covers. While the tropical storms and hurricanes are no joke, it’s fun to hear about the newest crop of names for winter storms. And this year is no exception: Bozeman, Montana’s Bozeman High School Latin class has come up with 26 inspired names for this season’s ragers.
Storm names are used to help communicate a potentially destructive weather pattern. 26 names are chosen at the beginning of the season, and the names go in alphabetical order through the season. The entire gamut isn’t always used. The good news is that last year, only 22 storms were named, down from 26 in the 2013-2014 year and 27 in the 2012-2013 year (when we got all the way back to the beginning of the alphabet with Achilles after Zeus!).
Without further ado, here are the 26 (mostly) Latin-inspired names for this winter:
- Ajax
- Bella
- Cara
- Delphi
- Echo
- Ferus
- Goliath
- Hera
- Ilias
- Jonas
