WTF: Elon Musk Is Seeking Adventurers to Colonize Mars With Him
If you want to buy a home, you might want to wait it out — in 10 years, you could ride on the Heart of Gold (named for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) to Mars and build a home there. In Elon Musk’s SpaceX announcement today, he revealed his plan to move people to Mars.
Mars isn’t a backup plan for Musk; he wants it to be an amazing adventure, and for people to live on both planets. Right now, a trip to Mars would cost $10 billion per person, but Musk wants to lower that number to below $100,000 (cheaper than most houses!).
If you’re worried about safety, Musk says that, while there are definitely risks, he intends to go to Mars himself, so obviously he isn’t too worried. Since there are currently zero people inhabiting Mars, if you’ve ever wanted to own land to have room for all your corgis, Mars is looking pretty good. If you end up totally hating all the open space and under-crowded environment, the ship has to go back to Earth anyway, so you get a free return trip. Musk envisions future travel to other planets as well, so if Mars isn’t your fave planet, you could wait to fly to space.
If you want to be like the explorers you’ve read about in your history books and be part of a group exploring a new frontier, this is your chance!
