How to Add Yellow Makeup to Your Summer Beauty Routine
With May wrapping up and June nearly here, it’s time to dive headfirst into all things summer beauty. That includes getting your face mist on, keeping cool with the celeb-inspired mohawk braid, and favoring nude nails over bright colors. While it’s fun to stay on-trend, it’s even better to be a trendsetter, which requires a bit of daring experimentation. Most recently, bold beauty babes — including models stomping the SS17 runways — are rocking a sunny shade that’s unexpected and unique.
Bright yellow makeup is here to spice up everyone’s summertime beauty routine. This trend is just picking up steam now (in fact, its search on Pinterest is up 200 percent since January), so you still have time to jump on it, give it your own personal spin, and impress your friends (and social media stalkers). Here’s how to rock it.
As Eyeshadow

Your eyes are the perfect area to have a lot of fun seeing how bright you can go. “I recommend sticking with one bold, yellow color as eyeshadow or eyeliner and using more muted shades elsewhere on the face,” says celebrity makeup artist Archangela Chelsea.
A vivid stroke of thin eyeliner on the top or bottom lashes will keep all eyes on you but won’t overpower the rest of your makeup, Chelsea recommends. A product like Too Faced Sketch Marker Liquid Eyeliner ($20) in Canary Yellow will do the trick. That said, if you’re after a more whimsical, dreamy vibe, consider sweeping a buttery eyeshadow like NYX Professional Makeup Hot Singles Eyeshadow ($4) in STFU over your lids.
As Blush
A sunny blush on your cheeks is actually surprisingly flattering. “Usually, I use a toned-down, muted yellow color if I’m working with the cheeks, because you don’t want to distract from other daring makeup you might have on,” says Chelsea, who works with celebs including Karmin’s Amy Heidemann and Suit‘s Sarah Rafferty. Yellows appear like a super subtle contour to the cheek if applied toward the back of the cheekbone as opposed to on the apples.
A warm but not overpowering color like glominerals Eye Shadow ($20) in Banana is an ideal shade for playing with this trend because it’s buildable. Start with a few light dustings to deposit a base color, and layer if you want to amp it up!
As Lipstick

Whether you opt for a straight-up matte yellow color or go for one with a bit of shimmer in it, there are a ton of different ways to sport this style on your pout. Beyond looking edgy and fresh for summer, a shot of golden color can instantly elevate an otherwise standard look with just a couple of swipes. Get your sunshine on with Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick ($18) in Queen Bee and get ready to turn heads.
