Step aside, selfie stick et al — the latest entry into the front-facing camera snapping game could be the best one yet. The Selfie Swing is hoping to get your shots more likes, all while staying incognito. You know, way more incognito than that foot-long stick.
The Selfie Swing (see more photos on The Verge) is an accessory for ASUS’ new ZenFone Selfie phone that recently made its debut at the Computex Trade Show in Taiwan. The phone itself — with 13-megapixel image sensors on the front + back cams, dual LED flash and laser auto-focus — is already *beyond* prepared to take all the selfies your heart desires, but with the clip-on accessory your snap-snap-snapping will be way fresh. Presented as a mockup and reportedly available later in the year for purchase, the Selfie Swing can serve two purposes: as a stand or an arm extension.
When you fold it back, the techcessory acts as a kickstand — perfect for setting a timer, backing up and posing. No more asking, “can you take my picture?” or “can you get out of the way of my selfie stick?” If you swing the apparatus down you can hold it steady in your hand, giving you a couple extra inches of space for a friend or two — or that insanely gorgeous backdrop that will make all your friends envious. When you’re done with that photo session, just fold it back and it will rest on the back case of the phone until needed for another click-worthy moment.
The Selfie Swing definitely has the potential of becoming the more subtle alternative to the selfie stick, but at the moment it’s only launching with the ZenFone Selfie. So here’s hoping for a similar spinoff while it’s being developed. That, or ASUS is totally welcome to build iOS, Android + Windows phone-compatible ones ;)
