WTF: This Startup Lets You Rent a Friend to Party With
We know a lot goes into planning a night out. One friend wants to go to the group’s favorite hangout spot, while another friend wants to try somewhere new. And, of course, there’s that one friend who just wants to go to sleep (#guilty). When you’re traveling in a new city, all those logistics get even more complicated if you don’t know where to go. You don’t want to end up in a cheesy tourist trap, but scrolling through Yelp reviews can be a total time-suck. What’s a girl to do?
If London-based startup Zoola Fix has their way, this year, everyone will be hiring one of Zoola’s in-the-know “Fixers” to take care of all the party planning. Zoola Fix connects local partygoers (aka “Fixers”) with guests looking for an authentic, localized nightlife experience. They won’t give you fashion advice on what to wear, but they will plan your night from start to finish, all based on your preferences.
Admittedly, the idea of paying a stranger (albeit a “cool” one) to party with you for the night sounds a little weird, but, hey, this may be the future of the peer-to-peer marketplace. Similar to Lyft, each Fixer has a verified account and guests won’t be charged until the Fixer accepts the request. Guests can also review their “Fixer” at the end of the night. We can imagine that you’ll really get to know your Fixer as the night progresses. Maybe you’ll even make a new friend.
If you’re determined to experience a new city like a local, it may be worth a shot to hire a “Fixer” to provide you with a customized nightlife experience, rather than relying on the trial and error of navigating random places on your own. Right now Zoola Fix is only offered in London and New York, but the company plans to eventually expand to other cities based on demand.
Oh, and if you think you’ve got what it takes to be a Fixer and want to show off your city knowledge, Zoola Fix is accepting applications. Getting paid to party? That’s one trend we can get behind!
